Septyn
A project full of possibilities and one that is very close to my heart.
Accordionist Seppe Vande Walle is a young, incredibly talented individual with fascinating perspectives on music and life in general.
He studied in Mons, Ghent, and Brussels, earning his Master's degree in Accordion with distinction.
We met in 2017 in Lauwe, where musician Bernard Joye brought us together as two guest performers. During the concert intermission, we were asked if we could play something as a duo. We chose the musette Indifférence and, without any preparation, performed it after the break. We were stunned—the chemistry was immediate. Septyn was born.
A Septyn concert offers a selection of Parisian musettes and waltzes, Argentine tangos, and swinging jazz.
Accompaniments are improvised, or pieces are given a custom arrangement. The option to switch from piano to guitar as the second instrument beautifully brings genres like Bossa Nova to life.
We always travel with an acoustic piano, technically prepared to add extra depth and dynamics to the performance. Occasionally, logistical challenges make this impossible. In such cases, we switch to a digital setup. To preserve the same dynamics as much as possible, I experimented in 2023 with sampling and looping the sound of a standard upright piano note by note at various dynamic levels, yielding remarkable results and plenty to think about. This process remains a work in progress, constantly refined and innovated. For enthusiasts, I plan to write a blog or technical page about how this all works. More on that later…
Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, the project will undergo a major refresh. New repertoire and instrument combinations will be introduced. Stay tuned for updates!
